Our corporate team is based locally in Seattle, but spends most of their time in our four locations in Western Washington. We prefer to be available and present if the need arises and to connect directly with our residents and their families.
Leon Grundstein, Founder and CEO
Leon Grundstein has more than 28 years of experience in real estate development, with over two decades of experience in the retirement industry. He founded GenCare Lifestyle with a game changing business model to promote a healthy and robust retirement lifestyle for older adults. As a competitive athlete and a fitness enthusiast, Leon has been a long-time advocate of active lifestyles. His belief in the physical and mental benefits of such a lifestyle translates to the innovative Whole Life Living concept that have led to a comprehensive focus on a person’s wellness.
Before forming GenCare Lifestyle, Leon was a co-founder and partner of Merrill Gardens, a west coast chain of retirement communities. From 1993 to 1997, he served as a principal and senior officer. Prior to that Leon was president of Gencor, Inc. and a principal in Gencor Development Inc., two companies that developed, acquired and managed congregate care facilities for the elderly.
Leon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Michigan State University and maintains his Commercial Real Estate Brokers license in Washington state and is active in a number of local and national organizations including the American Senior Housing Association. He has served as vice president and a member of the Executive Board for the Stroum Jewish Community Center, a board member of "On the Boards" performance gallery, a past president of the University of Michigan Alumni Club of Greater Seattle, and a member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association Seattle Campaign Leadership Council.
Leon also sits on the Regional Campaign Leadership Council of Victors for Michigan, Office of University Development, University of Michigan, is Past President of the Board of Co-Motion Dance Company and is a current Committee Member of Jewish Family Services Home Health Care Agency.
Neil Edwards, Corporate Director of Marketing and Operations
Born in Coventry England, Neil received his B.A. degree from Staffordshire University. Neil joined the GenCare team in 2012 after working with Emeritus Senior Living in the role of Senior Community Relations Director. After the past 3 years serving at GenCare Lifestyle’s Scriber Gardens community, Neil accepted the position of Corporate Director of Marketing in 2016.
He brings 25 years of senior living experience to the position both in operations as an Executive Director, as well as in sales and marketing for several major senior living establishments. Neil began his career in senior living as a personal care aide and attributes this experience above all others, for his passion to serve seniors and their families. Neil served as an Alzheimer's support group facilitator for many years.
Neil is excited about the growing success of each GenCare community as well as strengthening the unique Whole Life Living concept.
On a personal note, Neil enjoys playing soccer year-round in a recreational league, hiking with his family and playing the ukulele.
Marvon Pierce, Corporate Director of Culinary Services
Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Chef Marvon Pierce has acquired nearly 37 years of experience in the food service and hospitality industry. Marvon became Corporate Director of Culinary Services for GenCare Lifestyle in 2007, where he continued to advance his knowledge in health and nutrition, through consultation from nutritionists and culinary staff at Bastyr University, known for the study and advancement of natural health and nutrition.
Under his leadership, GenCare Lifestyle became the first senior living company in the nation to become gluten-free certified. In addition, for the past 19 years, Marvon has had the privilege to serve the greater Seattle area as a certified BLS instructor for the American Heart Association.
Marvon is an ordained minister who enjoys creating music, playing the keyboard, and riding his bicycle to stay fit.
Laurel Hammer, Corporate Director of Vitality and Special Projects
Laurel Hammer has had an impressive career in the Retirement Living industry that spans almost three decades. Over the years, Laurel has assumed key management roles where she has held Regional positions successfully implementing systems and procedures for departments to ensure effective and efficient operation and state compliance.
Laurel's accolades include winning the coveted Pinnacle Award for the top performing building in the nation after being recruited by Marriott International as a General Manager/Administrator at Hearthside of Lynnwood. She went on to become an Area Director, and Director of Alzheimer's Services for Marriott, opening programs across the country and training staff accordingly. Her education includes Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education, at Seattle Pacific University, and a Masters of Education in Administration, Seattle Pacific University.
She was influenced by include beginning her career as a high school and college teacher and coach, where she played semi-professional fast pitch softball, competed in AAU track, and coached many young girls and women's basketball and softball teams.
Simon Siu, Corporate Controller
Simon joined the GenCare team in 2015 and is responsible for GenCare Lifestyle’s corporate & property accounting and finance system.
With 20 years of combined experience in operations and accounting, he is the 3rd generation of his family to work in the real estate industry. He started his real estate career in the operations department of a residential property management company and then worked in residential & commercial property accounting.
He holds a B.S. degree in Accounting from Central Washington University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Washington and is a member of the WA Society of CPAs.
Away from work, Simon's interests include world music, traveling, walking and reading.
Kimberly Peil, Corporate Director of Human Resources
Kimberly was born in Carthage, Missouri but moved to Renton, Washington at a young age. She has continued to live there for most of her life with the exception of seven years spent in Portland, Oregon after she was married, where two of her three grown children we born.
She has acquired over 30 years’ combined experience in Finance, Administration and HR Services throughout the banking, food service and hospitality industries during her career.
Kimberly first came to work for GenCare Lifestyle in 2009, as the Payroll and Benefits Administrator and quickly became Corporate Director of Human Resources in 2010. Kimberly is responsible for managing all activities related to Human Resources (HR) and Payroll operations.
Kimberly enjoys spending her off time with her three granddaughters, attending fairs and open-air markets throughout Washington, and walking to stay fit.
Danielle Parker, Corporate Assisted Living Director
Danielle Parker is a registered nurse who specializes in geriatric care in the assisted living setting. She began her career in senior housing with GenCare in 2001 working as a Dining Room Server, and quickly realized she had been called to care. She made this her life’s work.
Danielle has worked in nearly every department in the industry. Currently, she is the Executive Director of GenCare Seattle, Ballard Landmark and the Corporate Assisted Living Director for all GenCare communities. She has served on the board of the North End Senior Care Coalition. Over the last 16 years Danielle has combined her knowledge of the retirement industry, clinical decision making skills and her commitment to human services to ensure the residents within her communities are safe and happy. Danielle believes that a strong community focuses on health, wellness, and resident participation.
As a Whole Life Living Champion, Danielle enjoys bike riding and hiking with her family on the weekends, and volunteering at local food banks and homeless shelters.
