How Robotics Improves the Resident Experience in Senior Living

If you’ve been waiting for the beloved cartoon, The Jetsons, to eventually become a reality, the wait is over. At least in GenCare Lifestyle’s Point Ruston community in Tacoma, Washington. To improve the resident experience, GenCare has innovated once again, this time by incorporating robotics into daily life. Here’s how.

Robotics and the Resident Experience

The newest staff member at GenCare’s Point Ruston community in Tacoma, Washington is a Segway Servebot S1 powered by Afunture Solutions, Inc. The robot was ‘hired’ for the community’s culinary department to enhance dining by maximizing the amount of time servers can spend in the dining room. The robot makes multiple trips to the kitchen to pick up orders and deliver them to the tables, allowing GenCare staff to remain attentive and present to the needs of residents. It also helps with bussing tables and can deliver food to various locations throughout the community. In addition, GenCare Point Ruston’s robot is a fun, efficient addition to community events and does an impressive job passing appetizers as well as drinks to the delight of residents.

As a bonus, the staff has discovered the robot can be programmed to interface with the administrative and marketing teams as well! It now also collects meal tickets from the front desk and takes them back to the kitchen saving a tremendous amount of time and steps. Where a concierge might get pulled in many different directions when leaving the front desk, by delegating these steps to the robot, they can instead spend more time greeting guests and assisting residents with their administrative needs.

This innovation is helping GenCare redefine roles in the community and streamline workflows as well as helping the Point Ruston community adapt with less while still delivering the first-class service residents have come to expect.
